Welcome to the Communication As Critical Citizenship. We will be exploring the field of communication studies and utilizing technology in along the way! Blogging on our class blog will be an important method of capturing our thoughts. We will be using this blog to communicate in many ways in the class, so it is an important class requirement that you visit this blog a few times during the week to keep abreast of assignments and other important class information.
Every student will be posting blogs here during the week. It is important that you remember that this is an extension of our academic classroom. You must use appropriate grammar, spelling and ideas in all your posts. Also, trying to rush through an assignment or making an weak effort in posting will be evident for all persons to see. Also, be sure to adhere to copyright issues in all posting. Only your original work whether words or pictures may be used. Please check out the Com 1402 links throughout the semester for helpful places needed while in this course. You should feel free to email me at the address on the syllabus at any time for help, questions, concerns, or possible class absences.
The first assignment for everyone is as follows: You must practice blog posting so you will be ready for your blog posts this semester. So, reply to this blog with a short introduction about yourself. Share with us your course of study, favorite interests or some unusual piece of information that will help you to remembered by the rest of the class. You should create a sign on using google for easy posting here. Please do not use your full name when posting. Everyone should use their first name and first letter of their last name. Using an unfamiliar name will make it difficult for the instructor and other class members to know the author of the posting. This blog post is due by our next class.

Hello Prof/ M
Sorry I had to remove my original post it didn't appear right. So here it is again.
Hello, my name is Frankie and I am studying criminal justice and psychology here at Kean. I play competitive paintball and have been for over five years now. I really enjoy this campus and my classes so far and hope to still have time to play paintball on weekends. Now that class and assignments have started, managing my time will be much more involved than high school but I am prepared to make the adjustment.
I am not a very good speaker at all and I don't know how I will be contagious when giving a speech. I hope to learn how to effectively communicate in this course and find someway to be uniquely contagious.
Hey you guys my name is Rima Patel, I’m the one in the back that was really loud just in case you don’t know who I am. So about me hmm where to begin? Well I was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ I am 17 years old and like most of you I am a freshman at Kean. I am majoring in Education, not sure what grade I want to teach though. I am very weird, unique, different, and most of all really outgoing. I am also incredibly energetic but I don’t know if you guys will get to see much of that since we meet on Monday mornings. I love to have fun and I love to smile, meeting new people is always a plus. My life revolves around music I guess a little too much. I listen to the radio 24-7 and when I mean 24-7 like literally I need to sleep with the radio on or my iPod on or else I can’t sleep, also when I shower every morning I need the radio on. My mom yells at me every day for having a radio in the bathroom but music is such a big thing my life it helps me concentrate I know that seems really weird but it’s true. Music can make u feel in so many different ways and it can also affect you in many ways and most of us relate to a lot of lyric that are out there so I guess that’s my unusual thing. Oh and I don’t tell a lot of people this but I still color sometimes =). I guess that’s it I look forward to having class with all of you guys. See you next Monday.
p.s. I can somewhat speak in front of a class but I may freeze up once in a while and I don’t really know what my catch is and how I am going to attract all of you but I’ll figure something out.
Hi Everyone!
My name is Monica and I’m a sophomore at Kean. I’m majoring in Therapeutic Recreation in the Dual Program for Occupational Therapy (that’s a mouthful!) One interesting thing about me is that my mom has 11 siblings so I have somewhere around 20+ first cousins on my mom’s side alone. I dorm here in Rogers Hall and last year I was in Bartlett Hall. I went to private school from kindergarten through senior year of high school and for high school I was in an all girls school. That was an experience!
One of the ways I am a contagious speaker is that I am a very friendly person and I think that shows in my speeches. I won’t be afraid to involve my classmates in a speech which I think can be beneficial to an effective speech.
Hey guys, firstly I would like to say that this class would more than likely be a boring one to begin my college days...sorry Prof. McManimon; but on any other day, or possibly time, this class would be a lot more talkative, but you were stuck with a morning class on a monday! My name is Albert Chumenti, I would prefer people calling me “Ajay” though, and I am a freshman Graphic Communication Design major, which is a nice and fancy way of saying I am a advertiser (Oooooh, there’s a shocker). I have worked for private companies, and open public corporations. I have done brochures, postcards, and everything in between. If you just so happen to be so lucky to dorm this semester, and your throwing something completely legal as to housing laws I could do the flyer...omit if your the Professor.
On a serious note, I am a really laid back, funny guy whose personality is certainly captivating. I am an extremely sarcastic person, I guess thats what I will use to capture my audience. I honestly believe humor is a perfect way to engage with the listener. Everyone loves a good laugh, and for those few who do not like humor good for you for venturing out of the circle, you dare devil you. As for the class itself, you will see a lot of my humorous side in my speeches although the energy level may not be up to par. At the same time it will be evident that I have done the necessary research to provide the information needed (I really just had to say something that sounds good for Prof. McManimon). So, Com1402 were off to endeavor to hone our abilities for public communication. See you guys Monday, nine-thirty a.m. SHARP!
Hi everyone, my name is Cindy and I'm majoring in Marketing and plan to minor in English. Unlike all of you, i can't go on about hobbies and unusual things i do, because I've very fidgety and extremely impatient. Oh, but i do love to talk. I can go on for hours about nothing at all, that doesn't make much sense but it's true. So far i like college, it's so different from high school. Especially for me since I came from a little private school with 300 students; it's a big adjustment coming to Kean. I guess that's pretty much it for now. Can't wait to meet all of you on Monday.
Greetings my fellow Homosapiens, I come in peace! My name is Ayana G. I am from a land called Trenton, NJ a place not to far from here. I am 17 yrs. old, a Sagittarius, I enjoy reading, writing dancing, and long walks on the beach lol. As u may have noticed I have a weird sense of humor or personality and it has taken years to perfect. I am very sarcastic and you will see a lot of that during this semester to be prepared. I am majoring in Communications/ journalism.
I am a contagious speaker because I use humor, personality, realism ( I do not like to sugar coat the truth), emotion, and persuasiveness.
Hi everyone, my name is Deann and my major is Social Work. I chose Social Work because I absolutely love kids and I hope to help them in anyway possible in the future. I love sports! I watch football, baseball, and the occasional soccer but I enjoy playing softball the most. I’m not participating in it this year due to a car accident I had last October which requires me to have a multitude of surgeries. I’d say the most unusual thing about me is the fact that I have four older brothers and they are all over 7’0ft tall. I’m actually the shortest person in my family because they are all massive, and yes, I am aware that’s insane. People are usually scared when the first meet them, especially the boys, but eventually they calm down and realize even though they are insanely tall, they are really sweet. So don’t get freaked out by me and I hope to have a fun semester.
Hi class! My names Emerald. I'm a freshman at Kean University. People usually know me for my witty sarcasm and clumsiness. My major is journalism, and i aspire to one day be a columnist for the New York Times. In high school, I was captain of my Lincoln Douglass debate team. This resulted in me growing a passion for public speaking and overall journalism. I have also developed my persuasive skills by convincing judges that my arguments make more sense, in debate rounds. The most unusual thing about me is that I can say the alphabet backwards and speak amazingly fast. If anyones looking for a dependable, crazy, creative, outgoing person, I'm the girl for the job.
...oh and one last thing. I am actually one of the few people who feel as though I can rule the world through communication skills. (Prof. M mentioned this in class) I thought it was the most hilarious thing i've ever heard because I would have never guessed someone would be able to read my thoughts and combat them within a 2 hour time span.
HELLOOO my fellow classmates and Prof. McManimon!
My name is Vanessa and Im a freshman.
I plan on becoming an early childhood education teacher. I work as a teacher assistant for pre-k; and I LOVE IT. One day I hope on owning a Nursery School OR becoming a principal. Most people might say that I am random, friendly, I often make up my own words, I LOVE to laugh, I'm determined and motivated and at times I get mad for little things; (but HEY who doesnt?) Don't be surprised when I'm having a conversation with you, I stop and say "What was I talking about?" Some of you might have a smirk on your faces because it happens to you too! Or is it only me?! l0l. Something weird about me is that EVERY single time I drink I count my gulps without realizing I'm doing this. It's something like... "1.2.3.4.5 -HEY what am I doing?!" OK. On a more serious note, I find this class very interesting! I dont think I have any problems speaking in front of class, but I might get a little bit nervous at times since I am in front a bunch of peers I barely know. We'll see how things go!
Hello! My name is mike, I am a freshman and I am attending Kean to peruse Physical Education, and athletic training. My goal is to become a high school gym teacher and work as a trainer as well. I am athletic and I did Football in high school so I believe my career choices suit me very well. My number one interest and passion is Mixed Martial Arts. I started doing MMA Last year and fell in love with it. I practice Boxing, Thai Boxing, and Jiu-Jitsu. Since I am still seventeen I can not get an official sanctioned fight because by law you must be eighteen. I will continue to peruse MMA throughout college and hope to fight inside an octagon one day. My nick-name in high school was TAPOUT because I always wear those shirts, so that’s how you can identify me. I am not good a public speaker, but I hope by the end of this class I will be able to comfortably.
Hello everyone. My name is Alyssa and my major here at Kean is Early Childhood Education. I currently work at a daycare and I absolutely love it. I have such a passion to work with little children. They just make me so happy. I get excited everyday to go work; I just wish they would give me more hours.
Well, I don’t have any hobbies, but I can tell you that I love being active. I used to play soccer in middle school. I can also say that I love being outside in any weather. I love the rain, snow, sunny, and cloudy weather all the same. My favorite part about outside is the sky. I find it to be so beautiful. I think the sky always has so much expression.
Anyway, I don’t know how well I will do in this class because I get nervous for almost anything and standing in front of a class makes me extremely nervous, but one thing you should know is that I am determined to be the best I can be at what I do. I came to Kean to become more then what I am and that is exactly what I will do.
Hello fellow classmates. My name is Michall A. and I am majoring in accounting hoping to become one of the top CPA’s in the country. I’ve always wanted to open up my own accounting firm, like Ernst and Young. Some of my hobbies are soccer and using the computer. I am 18 years old and I am Russian-Bukharian, many of you probably haven’t heard of the culture Bukharian, but if you look it up on Google you can see what a colorful culture it is. I am very devoted to Judaism and my culture and I speak Russian fluently. I grew up in New York and moved to New Jersey 5 yrs ago. A weird thing about me is that I have a peculiar case of OCD, everything needs to be perfect. Another weird thing is that you might realize that I’m a very quiet person, but if you see me at home you wont recognize me , because I am a rather loud person out of school.
I feel that in the beginning of this course I won’t have a contagious affect on you with my speeches, maybe my informative research would have an effect. However, after some time goes by I think I will have more confidence talking in front of the class. I think this class would really help me with my nerves and shyness before others.
Hey everyone! My name is Kim, and I’m here at Kean this fall as a transfer student from Rutgers University in Camden. I was originally majoring in industrial engineering, but to be honest, I found it to be really boring. As soon as I realized I was better suited with a major in Speech Pathology, I applied to Kean, which has led me to where I am now. I’m a commuter student, and I live about 10 minutes from Six Flags, so you can only imagine how early I have to wake up to get to this class on time. I’m originally from the Bronx, but moved out to New Jersey a few years ago. Both of my parents are from Puerto Rico, so I have a huge family and am very family-oriented. I tend to look like the type of person who keeps to herself, but I’m actually very friendly once you get into a conversation with me. In fact, the people who are around me on a regular basis will tell you that I’m a very happy person who’s always smiling and laughing. I can be somewhat comfortable when speaking in front of a group of people, but it depends on the setting and my mood. I’m not too sure what I do to catch people’s attention when I speak in public, but hopefully this course will help me figure that out.
My name is Rahjaun Gordon, but everyone calls me Rahj. I am a transfer here at Kean from Bloomfield College as a sophomore. I am studying Secondary Education with a concentration of English and Administration. I love basketball, but I don’t play for the school (although I should), I work instead. In this communication class, I hope to become a stronger public speaker being that I will have a classroom to myself one day. Something very unique about me is that I love fashion. For some reason I love to dress and just look good, great, handsome, and presentable for any event. That is probably the highlight of me going out to parties, social events, etc; to dress up. I most likely will never dress up for this class unfortunately, because this is my only class for the day and then its back to sleep. On other days when I am seen with my IZOD button up shirt, TRUE RELIGION jeans, PENNY LOAFERS, stylish headgear, and CARTIER shades its just my regular love for fashion, nothing special.
Hi everyone, my name is Theresa and I am majoring in Speech Therapy. I would love to be a child's speech therapist and work with autistic children. I have always wanted a career that deals with children, which is why I have been babysitting since 7th grade. I currently work at Commerce Bank and play a lot of basketball in my free time. My some of my other hobbies are cars (especially American muscle cars), racing and basically all sports, I love to watch and play them all.
I am a very shy person when I am in a large group, but when I am around my friends I am one of the most out going people you will ever meet. I am not sure how I am going to do in this class because public speaking has always been a downfall of mine, but I am hoping this class will help me with that.
Hi Everyone. My name is Ashley, I am from central Jersey. My interests include hanging out with my friends, watching sports (I am a huge Giants fan) and most of all just having a good time. I am currently a freshman at Kean University and I plan to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in psychology.
I think that I can bring the wow factor into my speeches. I like to find interesting facts about the subject I am researching. I also like to be very informative and hope that each person will learn something from my research. I am a very shy person but once I warm up I am very talkative and friendly.
Hey everyone. My name is Kaitlyn. I'm from central New Jersey. I've lived there my whole life. I am a huge Yankees fan and enjoy going to games. I love having a good time and meeting new people. This is my year at Kean University. I plan on majoring in Special Education.
The factor I believe I can bring to my speeches is how informative I am. I will not go up in front of the class and bore you with useless information. I like to make sure I am finding the most interesting facts I can.
The thing about me that catches the audience is my eye contact and my ability to raise my tone when needed and lower it also when needed.
found it
hi,
So i'm not sure that this is going to work as far as the blogging is concerned. This is my first bout with blogging, and i'm hoping that everything goes well with this.
I'm A New Jersey native, who went away to school to party, so here i am on round two. This time i'm going to do it right.
I like to think that i have an engaging personality, and i love to have conversations. What i would say is most contagious about me is my energy. I feel like i am a person who could walk into a room and and interest an audience.
Well i think that is it for me today, i just hope that i am in the right blog...
Steve
Hello all. My name is Andrew Buffa. I’m from Rahway, New Jersey and I have lived in there practically my whole life. The first four months of my life I lived in South Korea, where I was born. I was adopted by my family the Buffas and came to American in February of 1990. Even though, my nationality is Korean, I feel I am more Italian because that is the culture that I have grown up around. My interests include playing video games, watching football and basketball, going to the movies, and just having fun in general.
This is my first year at Kean University and I plan on majoring in History Education. I have been told that I am a great listener and can really help someone feel better when they’re down. I am very compassionate and understanding of everyone’s situation. I don’t appear to be very interesting at a first glance, but once you get to know me, I am a very interesting person who loves to talk when I am more comfortable around you.
This is the right blog hopefully, hahaha.

Hello, my name is Alisha and I am studying special education. I'm 18 years old and I will be turning 19 on December 4th. I graduated from Woodbridge High and am now a freshman at Kean. I'm a very social person and always have been. I have been a cheerleader since seventh grade for the red and black colors so I retired when I switched over to blue, a true captain. I usually walk in the Cancer Walk. I was an epileptic until the age of 10 and I'm very grateful that I outgrew it. I like to meet new people. One thing that is contagious about me is the way I project my voice and make eye contact when I speak. I also seem as though I know what I'm saying even if I'm doubting myself. I took public speaking in high school and I hope communications is just as useful as that class was.
What's contagious about me?
I'd say, probably the way i can mantain eye contact and keep smiling although I'm super nervous.
